Summer Tips for Healthy Skin

Summer Tips for Healthy Skin

Summer is upon us and it’s time to think about protection and care of our skin and body. Here are a few tips to get you off on the right foot for the season.

Vitamins and minerals are considered essential nutrients—because acting in concert, they perform hundreds of roles in the body. They help shore up bones, heal wounds, and bolster your immune system. They also convert food into energy and repair cellular damage.

Super Vitazyme contains all 45 of the Vitamins and minerals, plus enzymes required to feed the body, and improve your complexion and to allow these nutrients to do their job.

I personally Love this supplement because it’s all Plant-Based and has an enzyme delivery system, which makes it easily digested and assimilated into the body.

This supplement was formulated by Dr. Eric Sauer, NMD. RPh. If you have a sensitive stomach this is the perfect vitamin for you since it’s gentle on the stomach and easily digested.

It’s Tick Season/ Ticked Off Aromatic Organic Tick Repellant

As the most commonly reported tick-borne disease in the United States, Lyme disease has been getting a lion’s share of the attention lately, but ticks — the U.S. has almost 100 varieties but only a few bite humans — can be hosts to nearly a dozen other diseases that can be passed on to you and your children when they latch onto your skin.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, ticks can carry a variety of diseases and recommends preventative measures like repellents. In the United States, some ticks carry pathogens that can cause human disease, including:

Anaplasmosis, caused by bacteria, can be fatal in about 1% of cases, even in previously healthy people.
Babesiosis is caused by microscopic parasites that infect red blood cells and is treatable. The tick that transmits it is about the size of a poppy seed.
Ehrlichiosis, caused by bacteria, appears with flu-like symptoms. It is treatable has been fatal in about 2% of cases.
Powassan disease, which comes from a virus, has no specific treatment for the virus. Although only 75 cases have been reported in the past decade, it can develop into encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain, or meningitis, an inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord.

We recommend our organic repellent. Protect yourself, your family and pets with our Organic Ticked Off!

It’s Beach Season

You may have been taught that you need sunlight for your body to make vitamin D because vitamin D is not found naturally in most foods. But today, many foods are fortified with vitamin D during the manufacturing process. Thus, sun exposure is not as important for the body’s vitamin D supply as it used to be. Of course, being at the beach makes most people feel good. And enjoying a day at the beach swimming is better for your health than watching television. But you can still protect yourself from the sun’s damaging effects while enjoying yourself outdoors.

A very important beach bag product is sunscreen. There are many different sunblock products on the market. Many people aren’t sure which to choose. What SPF to choose? SPF stands for sun protection factor. The SPF number tells you how well the product will protect you from UVB, the burning rays of the sun. (Most sunscreens also absorb ultraviolet “A” rays or UVA.) The higher the SPF number, the greater the amount of protection. Everyone should use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. If you have had a skin cancer or precancer, you should use a sunscreen with an even higher SPF. Many of the new sunscreens have SPF of 45 or higher.

Of course, while you are on the beach you’ll want to look good too. We have another beach bag essential for you. Natural Lip Stain/Gloss. What’s great is the Lip Stain has lasting power. Bikini Styles come and go, but a chic Lip Color is Essential to wear on the beach. What’s great is it’s not thick like most Lip Glosses, so sand sticking to your Lips will not be an issue. This awesome color Sumacberrie will brighten your day, Lips and face.

More importantly, it’s chemical free, vegan and no fragrance except for Peppermint and Vanilla Essential Oils.

So, pucker up with this Natural Dual Lip Stain & Gloss!

Super Foods for Healthier Skin

When it comes to your skin, there’s one thing we know for sure: Not only what you eat, but what you put on your skin can have a direct impact on how you look. If you’re not specifically eating superfoods for glowing skin and instead are taking in processed foods or those high in sugar and fat and devoid of fiber, it can show up in the form of dull skin, perhaps along with other issues like acne, dryness, oiliness, or dark under-eye circles.

Below, we’ve highlighted some superfoods for glowing skin that belongs in your daily skincare regimen. They’ll help solve your biggest skin concerns and lead you to your most glowing look yet.

Papaya
Papaya contains high amounts of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Carotenoids, and Lycopene; which helps produce the connective tissue collagen to increase elasticity to the skin. Vitamin C further works to block free radical damage from the environment. Free radicals are unpaired molecules found in UV rays and pollution that causes premature aging such as fine lines, wrinkles and age spots.

Another great skin food is pomegranate seeds! Pomegranate may be linked to a reduction of wrinkles and fine lines caused by excess skin exposure because of their ability to regenerate the skin and prevent hyperpigmentation! Pomegranates are rich in Vitamin C, Potassium, and Fiber.

The majority of the fiber is found in the seeds!

DIY Raw Honey

Raw Honey Is an ingredient that actually works!

Here are just four reasons to apply a raw honey mask infused with lavender and tea tree essential oils.

Acne: Honey is naturally an antibacterial, so it’s great for acne treatment and prevention.
Aging: Full of Antioxidants, it is great for slowing down aging.
Complexion boost: it is extremely moisturizing and soothing, so it helps create a glow.
Pores: Honey is clarifying because it opens up pores making them easy to unclog.

Raw Honey can help unclog pores while simultaneously delivering moisture to parched skin.

The lavender and tea tree essential oils: Lavender has profound benefits on your skin because of its antimicrobial and antioxidant characteristics. It soothes and nourishes the skin. Tea Tree Oil is a great remedy for acne, but don’t overuse it! It also reduces inflammation which can help soothe eczema.

Easy Recipe:

3-4 Tablespoonfuls of Raw Honey.
6 Drops of USDA Organic Lavender Essential Oil.
3-4 Drops of Tea Tree Oil.

Leave this mask on clean skin for 30 minutes.

Tumeric

Tumeric is a remarkable plant and has been used for all kinds of problems including arthritis. But did you know it also prevents premature aging skin!

This drink doesn’t just work against cellular aging on the inside. In addition, it’s also a big help when it comes to preventing signs of premature aging in your skin and hair.

Here’s one easy recipe:

One cup of water
1/2 Tablespoon Tumeric
Squeeze the juice of 1/2 Lemon into the mixture
1 Tablespoon of Raw Honey
Stir well.

You can drink this once or twice a day. Tumeric is a Superfood primarily because of Curcumin, a bioactive component.

Tumeric dramatically increases the antioxidant capacity of the body. Oxidative damage is believed to be one of the mechanisms behind aging and many diseases. It doesn’t taste too bad either!

Laurie Lombardi’s Healthy Skincare Tips

Are you taking the right steps to care for your skin? A good skincare regimen with a healthy lifestyle is the best way to slow the signs of aging. The skin is the body’s largest organ, why not make sure you are taking good care of it?

The Truth About Skincare Products

There are growing concerns about preservatives in health, skincare, and cosmetics.

Parabens, synthetic preservatives found in most skincare products, may exert serious adverse health effects including hormone disruption, organ system toxicity, reproductive toxicity, and infertility. What worries public health advocates is that while individual products may contain limited amounts of Parabens within safe limits set by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) cumulative exposure to the chemicals from several different products could be overloading our bodies and contributing to a wide range of health problems.

The problem with standard skincare is the FDA doesn’t need to approve what ingredients are added to personal care products. If a company says an ingredient is safe, that’s basically deemed good enough. That’s why I use all-natural essential oils and ingredients in my skincare products.

Lock in Moisture: Hydration, Hydration, Hydration

There are quite a few humectants and Hyaluronic Acid is one of them, which is why we use it in our Eye Care Cream. The reason we like to “add” humectants to our moisturizing creams is due to its ability to attract water like a magnet.

Hyaluronic Acid is one such ingredient; that locks moisture onto the surface of the skin, keeping it healthy and moist. This ingredient can hold anywhere between 600 and 1000 times its own weight in water, perfect for dry or dehydrated skin. We only use Pure Pharmaceutical Grade Hyaluronic Acid in our products.

Everyday Skin Health

Because of its greasy nature, oil is the black sheep of the beauty world. But just as there are good oils for your skin the right natural oils can keep your skin moisturized, smooth, and glowing. It can even fight breakouts- without any slimy residue.

A more modern approach to skincare is to use oil to our advantage: fight oil with oil. The right combination plant, botanical & essential oils have become increasingly popular in the past decade because they provide a natural way to take care of your skin. It’s a total myth that you cannot use oil-based products to treat oily skin. In fact, oil dissolves oil and can be quite effective in treating oily skin.

Here’s another fact, they also have hydrating properties that make them appropriate for dry and sensitive skin, too!

Argan Oil

Some oils are heavier than others such as olive oil, Argan Oil when blended with the right combination of other oils, can work well. Tip: never use essential oils directly on your skin, they can be too concentrated and wind up irritating the skin.

Here’s why we use this amazing and nourishing oil in our BoTAM Moisturizer.

A lot of brands that advertise using Argan Oil (Moroccan Oil) are filled with silicone, artificial preservatives, dyes, fragrance and contain little actual Argan Oil. Argan Oil is produced from the nut of the Argan tree which only grows in Southwestern Morocco.

Argan Tree

Pure Argan Oil is an unprocessed oil and the nuts are hand-cracked between two stones, a technique they have used for centuries. Instead of being put through a machine, the raw kernels are hand-extracted from the hard shell, hand kneaded and then cold-pressed into the oil.

Argan Oil is chock full of Essential Fatty Acids, Antioxidants, Vitamins, (especially Vitamin A & E) and minerals that promote your overall health by moisturizing, softening as well as protecting your skin from sun damage free of harmful toxins and parabens.

Making Skincare the Old Apothecary Way

Message in a Bottle! L- Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) is not only necessary for collagen production and maintenance, but it is also a potent antioxidant that can neutralize free radicals in the skin. For example, when atoms are taken away from molecules in the skin, it causes damage to our skin’s DNA that can speed along skin aging.

We use 20% pure Ascorbic Acid in our Vitamin C Cream. When added to your daily skincare routine Vitamin C provides a range of benefits, from evening-out your skin tone, shielding skin from the visible impacts of pollution, significantly improving hydration, and keeping your skin looking younger, longer!
